The Innovation Village

The Innovation Village Kampala serves as a hub for entrepreneurs seeking to bring their ideas to life. The core belief is that anyone with a transformative idea should have the chance to pursue it. The initiative began in mid-2015, inspired by the observation that many innovation competitions only highlight a few winners, leaving the majority of ventures unnoticed. This led to the creation of The Innovation Village, a place where these ventures can thrive.

Currently, more than 2,000 entrepreneurs, with 40% being young women, have come together in six sector labs: Agribusiness Lab (90 entrepreneurs), Fintech Lab (140 entrepreneurs), Climate Lab (80 entrepreneurs), Media Lab (60 entrepreneurs), Healthtech Lab (40 entrepreneurs), and Governance Lab (55 entrepreneurs). The Labs offer a range of resources including access to funding, skills development, networking opportunities, industry insights, market trends, and policy influence.

By fostering collaborations between startups, established companies, government bodies, academic institutions, and tech organizations, The Innovation Village has created a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. This has attracted investors, corporations, academia, and global partners like Andela, Challenges Worldwide, EnVentures, and FinAfrica, who are working alongside the budding entrepreneurs.

The ultimate objective is to support the growth of companies that not only make a significant global impact but also enhance the quality of life for people worldwide.
