Contrary to common belief, Lorem Ipsum is not just random text, as it originates from a piece of classical Latin literature dating back to 45 BC, making it more than 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, delved into an obscure Latin word, consectetur, found in a Lorem Ipsum passage. By exploring the references to this word in classical literature, he uncovered its undeniable source. Lorem Ipsum is derived from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, penned in 45 BC. This text serves as a discourse on ethical theory, which gained popularity during the Renaissance. The initial sentence of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", is extracted from a line in section 1.10.32. The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum, utilized since the 1500s, is presented below for those who are interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are also included in their original form, along with English translations from the 1914 rendition by H. Rackham.
