Contrary to common belief, Lorem Ipsum is not merely random text but rather has its origins in a piece of classical Latin literature dating back to 45 BC, making it more than 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, delved into an obscure Latin word, consectetur, found within a Lorem Ipsum passage. By examining the references to this word in classical literature, he uncovered its definitive source. Lorem Ipsum is derived from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, penned in 45 BC. This work serves as a discourse on ethical theory that garnered popularity during the Renaissance. The opening line of Lorem Ipsum, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..", is extracted from a sentence in section 1.10.32. The familiar chunk of Lorem Ipsum that has been used since the 1500s is presented below for those who are curious. Additionally, sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from "de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum" by Cicero are faithfully reproduced in their original form, accompanied by English translations from the 1914 rendition by H. Rackham.
